The Donald McGavran Collection

The Ralph D Winter Research Center holds approximately 60 bankers boxes of Donald McGavran’s personal papers from 1965 until his death in 1990. These materials include his writings, a large amount of correspondence, and documents from his years on the faculty at Fuller Theological Seminary. They also include various items that McGavran collected in his travels.

This archive has been initially processed but there is considerable ongoing work to organize and catalog it. McGavran archival materials earlier than 1965 are held at the Wheaton College archives.

We also house a collection of 3403 volumes that includes the personal library of Donald McGavran. Well over a hundred books, pamphlets, and booklets are in Japanese, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, and other Indian Languages. It also holds books written by and about Dr McGavran, as well as books concerning the Church Growth Movement and other important ideas he pioneered.

McGavran’s library and archive can be accessed in person at our library in Pasadena.
