In 2024, People Vision: Reimagining Mission to Least Reached Peoples was published, https://missionbooks.org/products/people-vision?_pos=1&_sid=5af80220e&_ss=r&variant=46385828954371. The book contains a wide range of reflections on people group theory from its biblical and missional foundations to its applications on the field to its uses in mobilization and promise for the future. This resource is indeed helpful for understanding the theory, its applications, challenges, and potential for future use. The book also includes a broad range of contributors, so much so that reading through the book may leave one dizzy at points trying to put the various thoughts and challenges together. I have read the book cover to cover and found it enlightening and have also greatly enjoyed the Least Reached Peoples’ Network in the Lausanne Movement’s attempt to mine the content for further reflection through a series of webinars.
The first of which may be viewed here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GybCpv6fyeg. It includes Len Bartlotti, Dave Datema, and Alan Johnson as contributors as well as JD Payne and Peter Lee as respondents. Each contributor brings valuable points and perspectives to understanding people group thinking as well as how it might be (re)considered in our present time. They also unpack past challenges and how people group thinking has been used, abused, misunderstood, and misapplied. At the end of the day, understanding the simplicity and complexity of people group thinking can help one continue to imagine new approaches, challenges, and ways forward at the frontiers of mission.
I greatly commend this book and series for further engagement!
